Sclerotherapy For Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat telangiectasias (spider veins) and small reticular veins.
A sclerosant solution (commonly polidocanol or sodium tetradecyl sulfate) is injected directly into the affected vein using a fine needle. The sclerosant damages the endothelial lining of the vein, causing:
  • Endothelial inflammation, Vessel wall fibrosis, Collapse and occlusion of the treated vein

The occluded vein is gradually reabsorbed by the body over weeks to months. Blood flow is redirected to deeper, healthy venous channels.

The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting and does not require anesthesia.

Downtime:  Pressure bandage applied to legs for 2 days – 2 weeks depending on procedure.
